Brian Spencer is a percussion and visual educator and designer from Eastern Massachusetts. He is a graduate from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in Ethnomusicology.
Brian’s performance experience includes programs such as Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, Music City Mystique, United Percussion, Spirit Winter Percussion, and Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps.
Brian is currently a Battery Technician at 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (CT), Battery Manager at Wakefield HS (MA), and Visual Caption Head at Everett HS (MA). His writing resume includes several ensembles from New England as well as the Mid-Atlantic and South Eastern regions. He is also on the WGI Future Leaders Committee helping to meet the needs of WGI’s current performers. During the day he is a K-8 teacher in Everett Public Schools.
Cullen Ryan will be teaching the tenor line for the 2022 season. His marching career began with the Spartans and concluded with the Cadets, and since aging out of the activity, he has spent time on staff with a number of school programs throughout Massachusetts. Currently, Cullen is on the percussion staff with the Spartans DBC, and is the battery caption head at Norwood High School.
Outside of the marching world, Cullen is very active in the music industry. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Business from UMass Lowell, and works full time at Zildjian and Vic Firth. Cullen also performs and records regularly with a variety of music acts, including Toluca Lake and Class President.
Joe has been teaching at the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps since 2019 and is excited to be working with the winter percussion group this year. He has previously taught at the University of Connecticut, and is an alumnus of 7th Regiment, Carolina Crown, and UMass Amherst.
Devan is a graduate of Dartmouth High School. During his time there he was a member of both the marching band and the indoor percussion program. He has also marched as a member of 7th Regiment and the Oregon Crusaders. Since graduating, he spent two years as the Cymbal tech for Dartmouth Indoor Percussion.
Ryan is a recent graduate of UMass Lowell where he studied Music Education and this will be his sixth year working with the Spartans. He performed with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps from 2013 to 2016 and has been on staff with the front ensemble since 2017. Ryan also teaches percussion lessons throughout Natick Public Schools in addition to the Marching Band and Percussion Ensemble at Mansfield High School in Mansfield, MA.
Nate Kim is ecstatic to be joining the Spartans Indoor Percussion staff for its inaugural season. As a performer, Nate’s experiences include the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps, UMass Amherst Minuteman Marching Band, and The Cadets. He has taught several front ensembles in the New England area, most recently working with the King Philip High School Marching Band and 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps.
