The Future of Food Service at the Spartans: The Marching Music Bistro

The Spartans mobile kitchen was put into service in 1997 and is a 1979 model year trailer. It has helped hundreds of hard-working volunteers prepare over 400,000 meals over the years. Additionally, the trailer was originally designed to support 100 students on the road for 20 days. Today, the Spartans are pleased to have over 165 students traveling for 45 days a year. This trailer is overworking itself and it is time to give her a break. Thanks to the Southwind Legacy Project, an opportunity has come to put into service a larger trailer with additional features like convection ovens, a griddle, a washer/dryer for hand towels, a walk-in cooler and freezer, as well as larger power sources and storage.

However, there is a great deal of work to do to get the truck ready for the 2024 summer tour. It needs repairs including a partial floor replacement and new safe entry stairs, regular maintenance, safety features to be added, electrical/plumbing work, and a good fuel tank cleaning . . . just to name a few. This of course is on top of the food and paper products that will be needed to fuel our students, staff, and volunteers!

We are reaching out to our Fans, Alumni, Friends and Family, to participate in this effort to raise $40,000 for this important refurbishing project.
